The Chevening project from LBMV Architects explores the architectural renovation of a traditional Victorian townhouse in North London. With a brief to extend the side and rear of the property and also convert the loft space into a new bedroom with ensuite, LBMV were challenged with creating necessary additional space for family life, while remaining sympathetic to the style and original period features evident throughout the property.

So how did they do it?

As part of the remodelling, LBMV oversaw a full refurbishment of the house, sourcing reclaimed wood and on-trend herringbone flooring, as well as designing custom storage solutions that blend effortlessly with the original Victorian design details.

The benefit of the side and rear extension allowed the plan of the kitchen to be reconfigured, ensuring a much more efficient use of the space. The extension also provided the possibility of a kitchen island; carefully designed to maintain the open-plan feel of the room, the island creates plenty of worktop space for preparing or entertaining friends and family.

Considering both the original architecture of the property and progressive modern design, a full-width skylight was introduced to create harmony with the garden and allow as much natural light as possible.

Recessed windows within the extension provide uninterrupted views to the garden, continuing the relationship between beautiful design and modern practicality that prevails throughout the entirety of the project.

The finished project is a spectacular success. To see more, fire up the Gallery below...
