Designers hunting for waterproof fabrics to dress an outdoor space should check out the latest collections from Extex. The Kent-based company is offering a multitude of colour options, designs and textures ideal for a twonhouse terrace, country garden or Monaco marina.

Originally conceived for use on the uncovered deck areas of luxury yachts, Extex’s fabrics are constructed from what the brand calls an ‘advanced yarn technology’, endowing them with water repellent, stain resistant and light fast properties.

The full collection includes eight lines, with prices ranging from £48.75 per metre for Haze , a classic, plain fabric in 18 colours (Strawberry Haze pictured above), to £149 per metre for the Japanese-inspired Enso, an embossed chenille in 10 tones.

The £105-per-metre Solar range is perhaps Extex’s most eye-catching, however. Taking its style cues from the swirling galaxies in a night-sky, its printed fabric employs a glow-in-the-dark ink, allowing it to appear subtle by day but uniquely luminescent at night.

Other ranges include the 34-colour short pile chenille Mull, the three-dimensional surfaced Wave, and Cocoon, a pure white toweling fabric that’s ideal for removable slips covers in seating/sunbed areas. All the fabrics are pre-shrunk and machine washable.

Extex, an amalgamation of Exterior Textiles, is the dedicated outdoor brand from parent business Marina Mill, which has built a reputation since its birth in 1967 for its bespoke, woven fabrics.
