Interior designers looking for statement art should cast an eye of over the work of contemporary British artist Jessica Zoob. The painter is wrapping a memorable year with her a dramatic vertical sculpture Adventure, made with Karl Smith of Carved Oak in collaboration with Swarovski, showcased at Loughran Gallery's Exhibition One, next door to the Tate Modern.

Earlier this year, One Direction’s Harry Styles bought Zoob’s Passion 5 (pictured above), when he visited her London solo show Dancing With Colour, hosted by the Loughran Gallery. Passion 2, from the same collection, was hung in the drawing room designed by Mary Fox Linton, at the ‘Wool House’ exhibition

Zoob, who works from her Lewes home and studio, is best known for her impressionistic oil paintings. “Oil paint has exceptional properties," explains Jessica. "It gives colours solidity, lustre and depth, while its transparency makes wonderful glazes. I also use acrylic colour for its iridescence and metallic qualities, and its magical capacity to change or enhance overlying colours depending on the play of light on the picture, or the position of the viewer. I use gels textured with glass, cement, sand or crushed garnet and gesso in order to build a painting's underlying structure.

The artist reveals that her artworks are created by a process of building up and scraping back layers of paint. “Pouring liquid glazes onto the canvas forces me to work with complete spontaneity. I am interested in creating art which engages the viewer's imagination and lifts their spirits. I am perhaps rather old fashioned as I am interested in beauty! I would probably describe my work as contemporary impressionism."

Coming in January 2014 is a Zoob/ROMO Black Edition collaboration of a set of printed fabrics and wall coverings. Zoob art cushions are available now, with other fabrics due January 2014. Interior designers can purchase Zoob’s work from her online store; images are available on paper, canvas or diasec. Paintings can be bought directly by appointment.
